Before you meet someone important you first get yourself as presentable as possible. You spruce up your appearance; you may get a new haircut, even a new outfit for the special first meeting. After all, “You only get one chance at a first impression!” We all know how true that is.
Just as important as our first impression with new people is our first impression with seeing a home we might consider buying. When you decide to sell your home it’s very important to present the home at it’s best right from the beginning. The beginning is with the pictures and visual tour our REALTORS take and put on all the various websites. The next critical impression is when the REALTOR brings her customer to see your home.
Our REALTORS have extensive training and experience with selling homes. They can help you “dress” your home to show it’s best features. When they suggest you spruce things up a bit, remove some of your furniture or collections of “stuff”, it’s all for a very good reason. I can assure you we love children, but if we recommend removing the yearly pictures of all six of your now adult children covering the walls of the living room, we have your interests in mind! When the home is so full of your treasures, prospective buyers don’t have room to imagine their own treasures in the home. This is all part of staging.
Sarah and Lisa may even suggest you rent a storage unit to store some of your treasures while your house is on the market. Less is more when staging your home.
The REALTORS Code of Ethics requires us to place our clients’ interests before our own. Please remember that our staging suggestions are all made in your best interests. The more you trust in your REALTOR, the more they can help bring about your goal, the sale of your home at the best price and timing.
These are the observations of a newly licensed sales associate on the increasingly important subject of staging. Sarah and Lisa have considerably greater knowledge and experience in this area.
